Cambria

Dear friends Bonnie & Wally Miller,

Thank you for letting us enjoy your vacation house! Today, the sun has parted the fog, the seagulls are lifting off the roof tops and flying in formation out over the now blue green Pacific.

We have certainly enjoyed our week at your vacation home in Cambria CA. We arrived on Friday (Elaine, Mike and my brother, Richard visiting from Houston, TX). We opened the door to your spacious second floor house.  You have decorated it with such clever wall pictures of animals. My favorite is the raccoon hanging on the tree!

We played tourist at the artsy shops in rustic old and new Cambria. We followed your suggestion to eat at the Sow’s Ear Restaurant: very nice. We located the Cookie Crock Market (as you suggested) and seldom passed Caren’s Corner Shop without getting an ice cream cone!

On Sunday we attended Mass at the newer Santa Rosa Catholic Church. The original tiny 1890’s Church is still standing and is a favorite spot for weddings. Later that Sunday a friend of ours drove over from Bakersfield to be our 4th at bridge!  He stayed several days and then he and my brother drove back to Bakersfield to visit with some friends formerly from Houston.

Joe and Jennie drove down from San Francisco. Her parents live in San Luis Obispo.          We met for dinner in Morro Bay.  We hadn’t seen the Birch’s since the wedding a year ago. We played golf at Morro Bay and I just read and relaxed in Cambria. Tennis courts were located and used at the local High School (They wouldn’t let us use the tennis courts at Hearst Castle!) We selected Tour #2 the upstairs of Hearst Castle – that’s 300 stairs. We “seniors” were a bit tired that night! We gathered colored pebbles on Moonstone Beach; also at low tide checked out the tide pools. The red star fish were beautiful! At high tide, waves crashed against the rocks.

On our drive home we tasted wines  at the small wineries in Edna Valley. A very rustic drive which ended up in Arroyo Grande near Sylvia’s House.

Thank you again for the use of your hideaway in Cambria.

Elaine, Mike, and Richard

That was fun to remember. I had forgotten about that trip. Mom sounds like she had a great time. Happy to remember she was still playing tennis at that point.
