September, 1995

I must confess, I was an O.J. Simpson trial junkie in 1994-95. As was my brother, Dick. It all began with the arrest of ex-football star, O.J.Simpson for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in June of 1994. We all watched the police “slow” chase of the white Bronco with Al Cowlings, driving his friend O.J.Simpson down the Santa Monica (10) Freeway. People pulled to the road side and cheered as at a football game.
In July 1994 my brother arrived from Houston for his annual three week vacation with us. We spent a week of his vacation in a condo on the Central Coast of California in Cambria. The Simpson preliminary trial was in session. Richard, my brother, was so into the trial that we were like prisoners to the TV set, only allowed to dash outside during the morning, afternoon, and lunch breaks. Well it was rather cold and foggy outside and our bridge game was pretty constant inside. Dinner away from the TV set was a pleasant diversion.
On March 3, 1995 I had unsuccessful eye surgery for a macular hole (left eye). During the recovery period I listened to the trial daily. I really became “hooked.” I still tum on the car radio to listen to the trial while I’m driving or being driven. It is now Sept. 7,1995 and the trial is nearing an end. Soon the trial will be over. Without any riots we hope. Will we “junkies” have a tough time withdrawing from our addiction?
Grandchildren, go to your computers or the electronic library of the 21st century and look up the L.A.Times newspapers regarding the Simpson murder trial.
Now I have to call my friend, Joyce; she too is a Simpson trial “junkie.” We telephone chat during the trial recess.
